Tidmarsh

Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Plymouth, Massachusetts

Once a farm for growing cranberries,
Tidmarsh underwent the largest ecological restoration ever completed in the Northeast.
Nearly three and a half miles of arrested streams were given back to join others
in making this swampy space alive and connect
the headwaters of Beaver Dam Brook to the ocean so Herrings can journey upstream over again...

This place shows how nature responds to different conditions and how,
  if given a chance,
IT always comes back to the state where each and every part plays a role to sustain the whole...

Tidmarsh: ... bouquets of grasses...

Tidmarsh: ... of swamp lanterns...

Tidmarsh: ... and the notice...

Tidmarsh: ... of the largest ecological restoration...

Tidmarsh: ... miles of arrested streams given back to join others...

Tidmarsh: ... in making this swampy space alive...

Tidmarsh: ... flowing...

Tidmarsh: ... where water holds sway...

Tidmarsh: ... and grasses are homes...

Tidmarsh: ... hideouts...

Tidmarsh: ... and the nursery...

Tidmarsh: ... omnipresent...

Tidmarsh: ... sustaining...

Tidmarsh: ... where the two meet...

and Then IT Shows

Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Plymouth, Massachusetts

Spring comes in steps...
and the first steps mean so much,
as if the last page has finally been turned and the new chapter begins...

Tidmarsh: ... in bright colors...

Tidmarsh: ... of maple flowers...

Tidmarsh: ... amidst the warmth...

Tidmarsh: ... and first leaves...

Tidmarsh: ... while she looks for the best sprigs...

Tidmarsh: ... for her nest...

Laughing Brook

Laughing Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts

We are on the way along the brook named by Thornton W. Burgess,
the well-known author of many stories for children,
inspired by this piece of land and the brook that passes across...

The given name suggests the liveliness, the closeness, the friendship,
and the moments of being together in spirited rambles through the woods...

Laughing Brook: ... spring is water...

Laughing Brook: ... cascading...

Laughing Brook: ... reflecting...

Laughing Brook: ... embracing...

Laughing Brook: ... stop for a moment...

Laughing Brook: ... listen to these passing burbles...

Laughing Brook: ... awakening swamp lanterns...

Laughing Brook: ... in spring colors...

Laughing Brook: ... as if watching...

Laughing Brook: ... this split rock...

Laughing Brook: ... as if watching...

Laughing Brook: ... this buoyancy that water brings...

Laughing Brook: ... along the way...

Laughing Brook: ... stop for a moment...

Laughing Brook: ... while she keeps flowing...

Early Delights

Charles W. Ward Reservation, Massachusetts

The woods are soaked, waiting for all those to be awakened...
And then we stumble upon the colony of mushrooms, already up and running...

... so beautiful... Why? All they need for dispersal of their spores is wind...

Ward: ... all soaked... and then we stumble upon the colony of mushrooms...

Ward: ... already up and running...

Ward: ... recycling operations of the forest...

Ward: ... nothing left to waste...

Ward: ... and the mosses attest to that...

Ward: ... dancing...

Ward: ... with the Lycopodium princess...

Ward: ... and waiting for all those to be awakened...

Ward: ... so beautiful... why?...

Ward: ... all they need for dispersal of their spores is wind...

Into the Spring

Charles W. Ward Reservation, Massachusetts

Today is the first day of spring.
The day when the Sun's rays shine on the Earth's equator at 90 degrees
and when the day equals the night.
This is why it is called the equinox from Latin aequus+nox which means equal night.

Physics and math behind the name do not mean much to nature.
Woodlands are still quiet, no leaves, no flowers, no insects,

   but the burble of streams,
released from the freeze and lush with water, cheering for the spring...

Ward: ... first day of spring...

Ward: ... released from the freeze and lush with water...

Ward: ... cheering for the spring...

Still in Winter

Borderland State Park, Massachusetts

Cold keeps the snow around...
White stage for the show of artful rocks and fallen leaves,
usually left out of the views and now here to be expressed...

 Sparkling...

Is it a cover-up or ephemeral miracle? ... as we all are...

Borderland: ... cold keeps the snow around...

Borderland: ... white stage...

Borderland: ... along the path...

Borderland: ... for the show of fallen leaves...

Borderland: ... and artful rocks...

Borderland: ... to be expressed...

Borderland: ... on branches...

Borderland: ... on passages...

Borderland: ... is it a cover-up or ephemeral miracle ?...

Borderland: ... to be born again...
