A visit to the woods at this time of year is a sleepy affair.
The energy, mostly buried in the soil, has found the release
through the twists and turns of frozen surfaces, and
the cracking sounds,
mushroom blooms, rippling reflections, and crisp breaths.

Sea-ducks have come HERE to spend the winter well away from the Arctic icebergs.
It is cold and windy,
but they do seem to enjoy flying above the waves,
or into the foamy sprays.
Gliding over curly surfaces,
touching the ocean and rising back to the air.
The winter festival has just begun...

Wonderful to come to Essex and spend hours ambling across the rolling woods and meadows.
The autumn vibrates through the maze of tree crowns,
in the sparkles of sunlight and the rustles of browns, in the living shadows.
A hawk is up in the blue, watching...

Coming close to the water and reeds are here,
with their silvery plumes,
reflecting sparkles of sunlight, and swaying in the rhythm of late autumn.
The whole place is dancing...

... and then the pathway vanishes,
in grasses up to my waist,
but there is still a belief that it is HERE, so I follow.
The grasses are on my way and I am on theirs, trespassing.
This bee does not seem to mind...
