What a Flutter !!!

John J. Donovan Reservation, Hamilton, Massachusetts

Meadows are in bloom and motion.

Colors of the petals mingle with the colors of the wings.

  And the wind sways around.

   Among grasses.

That bird with a seed does not look to be in a hurry.

  While Monarchs flutter.

  From flower to flower...

Donovan: ... meadows...

Donovan: ... where the wings mingle with the petals...

Donovan: ... in bloom...

Donovan: ... and the motion becomes a part of the story...

Donovan: ... with the wind swaying among grasses...

Donovan: ... that bird does not look to be in a hurry...

Donovan: ... Milkweed stands proudly...

Donovan: ... for Monarchs...

Donovan: ... gliding...

Donovan: ... from flower to flower...

Donovan: ... meadows...

Donovan: ... inviting flutters...

Donovan: ... and wanderings...

Donovan: ... through Thistles...

Donovan: ... where they find each other...

Donovan: ... and how about me?...

Donovan: ... until the next time...

Those Wings

 Lone Tree Hill, Belmont, Massachusetts

Enchanted by Monarchs, their looks, their energy and life story.

The most recent request from the Center for Biological Diversity to the Congress
to provide more than $100 million per year
to help stem the Monarch's rapid population decline and prevent extinction,

along with these words:

More than America's most beloved butterfly,
the monarch is  a symbol of wonder, transformation, and resilience.

This may be Congress' last chance to save monarch before they become the face of the extinction crises.

Makes me take a deep breath,

as I watch the first Monarch this season,
and the ONLY one among milkweeds which grow here for them.

Is THIS the way of nature ?

Lone Tree Hill: ... enchanted by monarchs...

Lone Tree Hill: ... their looks...

Lone Tree Hill: ... their energy...

Lone Tree Hill: ... and life story...

Lone Tree Hill: ... on the verge of extinction...

Lone Tree Hill: ... makes me take a deep breath...

Lone Tree Hill: ... as I watch the first monarch this season...

Lone Tree Hill: ... and the only one among milkweeds which grow here for them...

On the Meadow

Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Carlisle, Massachusetts

Meadows are in bloom
and I expect those colorful flutters amidst the flowers,
hoping that some may come closer to feel their ripples...

A single Monarch is over there, suffusing the whole meadow with motion...

  ONLY ONE...

Cannot but think of the recent decision from the International Union for Conservation of Nature
     to place
Beloved Monarch Butterfly on the Red List of species at risk to become extinct.

  ONLY ONE...

Great Meadows: ... a single Monarch is over there...

Great Meadows: ... suffusing the whole meadow with motion...

Great Meadows: ... only one...

Great Meadows: ... at risk to become extinct...

Great Meadows: ... only one...

Living Meadow

Mass Audubon Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts

Being close to a meadow at this time of year,
with the butterfly flutter attuned to the summer aromas...

and I find myself in the midst of this busy world, just watching...

Moose Hill: ... being close to a meadow...

Moose Hill: ... at this time of year...

Moose Hill: ... with the butterfly flutter...

Moose Hill: ... attuned to the summer aromas...

Moose Hill: ... and curves...

Moose Hill: ... where some appear suddenly...

Moose Hill: ... on the tops of grasses...

Moose Hill: ... and I am in the midst of this busy world...

Moose Hill: ... just watching...

Two Weeks Later

Mass Audubon Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts

On our last visit to the milkweed meadows we missed Monarchs...
Where are they? Already gone? Or not yet arrived?

This is the time when they stop here,
leave their eggs on milkweed leaves and pass away without notice,
while in 30 days their young grow-up and resume the last part of their grandiose journey up-north...

Coming back in two weeks and... HERE YOU ARE!!! infusing the space with orange flutter...

    Welcome back !!!

Wachusett Meadow: ... this is the time...

Wachusett Meadow: ... with milkweeds flowering...

Wachusett Meadow: ... in the lush green...

Wachusett Meadow: ... when Monarchs look for milkweed leaves...

Wachusett Meadow: ... and infuse the space with orange flutter...

Wachusett Meadow: ... welcome back !!!...

Milkweeds are in Bloom

Mass Audubon Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts

Wachusett Meadow is a Monarch Waystation with milkweed meadows that grace this place.
Monarch life story is fused with these meadows...
so, each time we visit, the story comes up, over and over again...

Milkweeds are one of my favorites at any time of the season...
Summer brings scents, colors, buzzzz... and swallows parading with their fly-overs,
a charming portrait of what it means to be alive...

Wachusett Meadow: ... monarch waystation...

Wachusett Meadow: ... in bloom...

Wachusett Meadow: ... absorbed by their scents...

Wachusett Meadow: ... and floret buds...

Wachusett Meadow: ... these are the milkweeds...

Wachusett Meadow: ... with their feathered guardians...

Wachusett Meadow: ... on call...

Wachusett Meadow: ... by the meadow...

Wachusett Meadow: ... the flowers...

Wachusett Meadow: ... and the buzzzzzzz...
