Intertidal Meanders

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Plum Island, Massachusetts

Low tide opens up the whole world of usually unseen.

Barnacles, ingrained with the rocks, multitude of them, closed in their shells.
 When the high tide comes,
they open their doorways, and join the outside world.

Snails know where they are,
with the house which is closed during low tide.

Living on the rocks with the water swaying back and forth makes the solid house a godsend.
Open it up when drowned and close it when drained.

Quite the opposite from what I would do...

Plum Island: ... low tide...

Plum Island: ... opens up the whole world...

Plum Island: ... of usually unseen...

Plum Island: ... barnacles, ingrained with the rocks...

Plum Island: ... closed in their shells...

Plum Island: ... amidst the traces...

Plum Island: ... where steps do not last...

Plum Island: ... snails know where they are...

Plum Island: ... living on the rocks makes the solid house a godsend...

Plum Island: ... open it up when drowned and close it when drained...

Plum Island: ... quite the opposite from what I would do...

High Tide

Crane Estate, Ipswich, Massachusetts

Special to be at this place and feel the ocean tides,
the celestial potency and the rhythmic motions of the outer world.

Today is HIGH, HIGH tide,
because the Sun and the Moon are aligned and they push and pull together.
    ALL in water,
so much so that there will be no access to the beach for a few hours.

    And I am here,
amidst this overflow, with the Sun and the Moon keeping me from leaving...

Crane Estate: ... approaching...

Crane Estate: ... special to be at this place...

Crane Estate: ... to feel the ocean tides...

Crane Estate: ... the celestial potency...

Crane Estate: ... and the rhythmic motions...

Crane Estate: ... of the outer world...

Crane Estate: ... today is high, high tide...

Crane Estate: ... flowing through grasses...

Crane Estate: ... into the estuary...

Crane Estate: ... up to the bridge...

Crane Estate: ... and over the road...

Crane Estate: ... all in water...

Crane Estate: ... and I am here...

Crane Estate: ... with the sun and the moon...

Crane Estate: ... keeping me from leaving...

The World Revealed

from Jeremy Point along the beach, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Just one soft step into the low tide world, a wonder, a sense of seeing unseen.

Playful forms and colors, living on both ends,
sweeping surfaces trailing behind the ocean,

and sandy shoals showing their faces.

 The time to be HERE...

Great Island: ... low tide opens up this world...

Great Island: ... of pebbles...

Great Island: ... forms and colors...

Great Island: ... of surfaces...

Great Island: ... trailing behind the ocean...

Great Island: ... those living on both ends...

Great Island: ... the land and the sea...

Great Island: ... and waiting...

Great Island: ... for the ripples...

Great Island: ... to come anew...

Great Island: ... and lift her spirits...

Great Island: ... while this shoal shows her face...

Great Island: ... the time for a walk...

Great Island: ... with the Sun...

Low Tide

Jeremy Point, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Glossy sand, in streams and puddles, and the life left behind.
The sea has reached the low point.

Jeremy Point: ... low tide...

Tracing the Ocean

Crane Beach, Massachusetts

Low tide is at 11AM, just about the time we will be here...
... when the ocean flows away, leaving the sand sculpted in his own image...
... the dynamics of undulations, waves and ripples, it is all HERE...

    ... in this fabled world...

Crane Beach: ... when the ocean flows away...

Crane Beach: ... weaving through the sand...

Crane Beach: ... gliding...

Crane Beach: ... sculpting...

Crane Beach: ... look here...

Crane Beach: ... slipping from the sand...

Crane Beach: ... rippling...

Crane Beach: ... in the image...

Crane Beach: ... of the ocean...

Crane Beach: ... coming... high tide in three hours...
