Danehy Park, Cambridge, Massachusetts
Just a pass along the grove of Sumac makes me stop
to look at the bees buzzing around clusters of yellow flowers...
they do no seem to note or care...
Pollen baskets on their legs feel heavy, but not to them.
The cargo is deftly packed,
grains of pollen mixed with nectar hold well
and this extra weight does not hinder their flight.
More or less the same as my backpack...

Crane Beach, Crane Estate, Massachusetts
Terns are here...
The place they know well... where they were born
and come back each spring,
find their mates, build nests and raise their young...
A life story written on the beach...

Rock Stars of Sand Dunes
Castle Neck, Crane Estate, Massachusetts
Hudsonia is in bloom.
Yellow clusters of flowers are bringing meadowy feelings to the dunes....
A pioneer in the shifting world of sand and wind,
knows how to play this game...
And when those who do not know them think they are on the brink of death,
she throws all the shine to the fore, as if saying
Hey we are here to stay...

These Lush Woods
Rutland Brook, Brooks Woodland, Petersham, Massachusetts
Bright greens, perfect young leaves mingle in the flourish of woods.
Insects are buzzing around, butterflies, dragonflies, and, yes,
mosquitoes... We've gotten few bites and a feel-better thought comes to mind:
these ladies need our blood to feed their young.
The way of nature, life needs life to live...
except for plants,
they make food from the Sun and Earth, not a drop of blood spilled...
and, perhaps, this is why I love them so much, they make me forget...
