Wrack Zone

Crane Beach, Massachusetts

On the verge of the sea... where ebbing tides leave the canvas of streams and sea-plants,
and Piping Plovers time their visits to forage for food...
... this is called a "wrack zone"...
... sounds like a zone where things destroyed are deposited,
and "things destroyed" in human jargon are the things one can simply throw away...

Looking at these sea-plants and those nimble birds,
I am enchanted by the vitality of the whole scenery,
and I simply cannot call this world a "wrack zone"...

Crane Beach: ... on the verge of the sea...

Crane Beach: ... where tides leave the canvas of streams and sea-plants...

Crane Beach: ... and Piping Plovers time their visits...

Crane Beach: ... this is called a wrack zone...

Crane Beach: ... looking at those sea-plants...

Crane Beach: ... washed over...

Crane Beach: ... and nimble Piping Plover...

Crane Beach: ... I cannot call this world a wrack zone...

Well-Timed Crowds

Crane Beach, Massachusetts

The Trustees have opened Crane Beach to the public after months of being COVID-19 closed.
At the time when avian crowds gather here to raise their young...
... or take a rest on their way to the north...

... the sand grasps their steps, the air their personas...
... and in the midst of all this motion, a thought... I am just an outsider...

Crane Beach: ... sand... into the sea...

Crane Beach: ... it is this time of the year...

Crane Beach: ... when wind and rain come for a visit...

Crane Beach: ... and terns are back...

Crane Beach: ... sandpipers...

Crane Beach: ... taking a rest on their way to the north...

Crane Beach: ... the sand grasps their steps...

Crane Beach: ... and the air their fly-overs...

Crane Beach: ... while terns observe the ocean...

Crane Beach: ... and personalize...

Crane Beach: ... in flight...

Crane Beach: ... focused...

Crane Beach: ... not in the mood to share...

Crane Beach: ... with self-assured questioning...

Clovering

Fresh Pond, Cambridge, Massachusetts

COVID-19 has stopped the mowing of pastime meadows
and opened the space and time for clovers to bloom...
Sprinkled flowers around overgrown grassy surfaces... and bees... the faces seldom seen here...

... imbued with the energy of release...

Fresh Pond: ... COVID-19 has stopped the mowing...

Fresh Pond: ... and opened the space for clovers to bloom...

Fresh Pond: ...

Fresh Pond: ... sprinkled flowers...

Fresh Pond: ... and bees...

Fresh Pond: ... the faces seldom seen here...

Fresh Pond: ... imbued with the energy of release...

See Them, Hear Them

Fresh Pond, Cambridge, Massachusetts

During these COVID-19 days, Fresh Pond has become our second home...
... our window to nature...

Fresh Pond: ... steps...

Fresh Pond: ... and she hears them...

Fresh Pond: ... amidst dashes...

Fresh Pond: ... stops...

Fresh Pond: ... and these looks...

Fresh Pond: ... along quiet golf course...

Fresh Pond: ... a pause...

Fresh Pond: ... a glitter from up there...

Fresh Pond: ... with a hint of craft...

Fresh Pond: ... while those easily stepped upon rejoice...

Fresh Pond: ... in abundance...

Fresh Pond: ... and the orange permeates through...

... and Life Goes On...

Fresh Pond, Cambridge, Massachusetts

Peaceful morning on closed golf course...
Canada Geese with their young in slow motion... feels like the safest place,
      so distant from COVID-19...

... nature in her own unspoiled rhythm...

Canada Geese: ... in slow motion...

Canada Geese: ... on this peaceful morning...

Canada Geese: ... feels like the safest place...

Canada Geese: ... quietly in tandem...

Canada Geese: ... so distant from COVID-19...

Canada Geese: ... nature in her unspoiled rhythm...

Through the Window

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Flowering right in front of my window...

I have known this Crabapple for many years, back when she was a little tree.
She has grown over the years, and then out-grown her own capacity to live healthy among all her neighbors who have brought an extra shade into this corner of the yard. Two years ago, it came down to life or death and we, humans, chose life - the therapy to help bring her health back...

... I look at her young leaves and flowers... exchanging smiles through the window...

Crabapple: ... flowering...

Crabapple: ... right in front of my window...

Crabapple: ... her young leaves...

Crabapple: ... and flowers...

Crabapple: ... exchanging smiles through the window...
