Charles W. Ward Reservation, Massachusetts
The woods are soaked, waiting for all those to be awakened...
And then we stumble upon the colony of mushrooms, already up and running...
... so beautiful... Why? All they need for dispersal of their spores is wind...

Into the Spring
Charles W. Ward Reservation, Massachusetts
Today is the first day of spring.
The day when the Sun's rays shine on the Earth's equator at 90 degrees
and when the day equals the night.
This is why it is called the equinox from Latin aequus+nox which means equal night.
Physics and math behind the name do not mean much to nature.
Woodlands are still quiet, no leaves, no flowers, no insects,
but the burble of streams,
released from the freeze and lush with water, cheering for the spring...

Still in Winter
Borderland State Park, Massachusetts
Cold keeps the snow around...
White stage for the show of artful rocks and fallen leaves,
usually left out of the views and now here to be expressed...
Sparkling...
Is it a cover-up or ephemeral miracle? ... as we all are...

High Water
Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Carlisle, Massachusetts
Concord is in high water.
During such times, the trail along the river is impassable.
Except today... all frozen...
Reminds me on J.H.Mitchell's observations
on how differently humans and nature perceive a floodplain.
For what humans see as flood to be stopped,
the plants see as high water. Perfectly adapted, this is just one of their natural states.
How superb in their calm...

With the Flow
Cook's Canyon Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts
The snow is on its way out, it seems,
but the cold still keeps some of the crystals around the water.
So our visit to Cook's Canyon at this time of the year is pretty much the visit to Galloway,
flowing with the gusto around frozen surfaces and through crystalline cascades...
Charmingly unstoppable...
