Mass Audubon Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts
Wachusett Meadow is a Monarch Waystation with milkweed meadows that grace this place.
Monarch life story is fused with these meadows...
so, each time we visit, the story comes up, over and over again...
Milkweeds are one of my favorites at any time of the season...
Summer brings scents, colors, buzzzz... and swallows parading with their fly-overs,
a charming portrait of what it means to be alive...

Those Eyes
Sandy Neck, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Around and around their nests, high up in the blue...
Ospreys have come back...
their yearly travels bring them to various places, thousands of kilometers away form their nests,
but they always return...
The world is under their wings...

Laurel Walk
Maudslay Sate Park, Massachusetts
Blooming with grace among high pines who do not seem to mind...
Mountain Laurels are here at home, native to eastern United States,
seem to adore rocky ridges, much like skilled mountain ramblers...
They are toxic, so do not even think to try me for food...
Bob Frye writes:
Maybe you've had one of those relationships...
You know, toxic... pretty... alluring, inviting... But beneath it all, they're pure poison.
So it is with Mountain Laurel.
It's one of the most glorious wildflowers... But it's best to look rather than touch...
I smile... Why would you want to touch this plant? She knows... and this is why she is poisonous...

Green Meadow
Mass Audubon Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts
I sense the flutter of butterflies around scattered bouquets of flowers
and see a Bobolink... must have arrived from far-lands not that much earlier...
The meadow exhales green... inspires me to take a deep breath...
