Not in a Hurry

Great Brook Farm State Park, Massachusetts   

Still wintry cold, not a veil of snow.
  Mosses are lively green, woodpeckers animate branches, those leaf buds in waiting.

    A thought of spring appears... 

Sounds

Crane Beach, Massachusetts   

No wind today...

High tide is on its way down, deep breaths of the Ocean are about the only sound I can hear.
 And even now, in this quietness,
  there are voices of perpetual motion, the eternal comings and goings,
     imbuing the familiar with the touches of untold... 

Where is the Snow ?

Brewster's Woods Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts   

    It is in my dreams... 

Even Here

Noanet Woodlands, Dover, Massachusetts 

Sunny, well below freezing.
 Dusty snow crystals sparkle along the way,
  deep, cold breaths refresh.

 Noanet flows unruffled,
  some frozen jumps showing here and there to attract the eyes.

 Wintery quiet.

 With these tiny birds, all in motion between the stops to pick up seeds.
  And the lively marks, winking... 

And the Life Goes On

Gooseberry Island, Westport, Massachusetts 

Winter brings windy chills to the rugged, coastal walks.
  Zigzags make me look down at the pebbles,
    with each step,
      a discovery of its own.

  Along with the birds, upward and around.
    They are ready for harsh reality of the place, vivaciously fulfilling their lives' purpose.

  And the ocean stays with them...

Brewster's Woods Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts 

Each winter, I wait for snow with all my heart.
 And when it arrives, the first thing on my mind is woods.
 
 Steps stay behind along the lost paths,

 arching branches come close to the touch,
  amidst the shimmer of falling snow dust.
 
 Sculpted whiteness,
 
 dazzling in the shining moment of the present...
