Passing Through

Doane's Falls, Royalston, Massachusetts

Hemlock sparkles amidst the whooshing vibrations of cascading Lawrence
and the ferns, mosses and lichens listen, safe and sound on the rocks.

Coming together to flourish in the glamour of passing through...

Doane's Falls: ... hemlock sparkles...

Doane's Falls: ... amidst the whooshing vibrations of cascading Lawrence...

Doane's Falls: ... a glimpse...

Doane's Falls: ... through the breaks...

Doane's Falls: ... and tumbles...

Doane's Falls: ... while the path stays on his own...

Doane's Falls: ... and ferns make sure they are not on the way...

Doane's Falls: ... enjoying as much the views...

Doane's Falls: ... of the river...

Doane's Falls: ... swashing it in delight...

Doane's Falls: ... while others watch...

Doane's Falls: ... from above...

Doane's Falls: ... or closer...

Doane's Falls: ... to the jumping splashes...

Doane's Falls: ... and the rocky bubbles...

Doane's Falls: ... embraced...

Doane's Falls: ... by the woods...

Doane's Falls: ... in the glamour...

Doane's Falls: ... of passing through...

A Salute to Spring

Doane's Falls, Royalston, Massachusetts

On this first day of spring, not much to show. No leaves, no flowers, no insects...

Only a hunch of being hidden in the sounds of waterfalls.

Doane's Falls: ... a salute to spring...

Water

 Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts

A glimmer of winter is reflecting off of sculpted motions of burbling streams.
  Gurgles permeate the woods,
frozen sprinkles and bounces suspend the time.

Amidst the soon to be awakened... it is all about water, isn't it ?

Wachusett Meadow: ... a glimmer of winter...

Wachusett Meadow: ... reflecting off...

Wachusett Meadow: ... of sculpted motions...

Wachusett Meadow: ... of burbling streams...

Wachusett Meadow: ... gurgles...

Wachusett Meadow: ... permeate the woods...

Wachusett Meadow: ... with those frozen looks...

Wachusett Meadow: ... just flows...

Wachusett Meadow: ... where our eyes meet...

Wachusett Meadow: ... and icicles stop the time...

Wachusett Meadow: ... or it seems...

Wachusett Meadow: ... amidst the soon to be awakened...

Wachusett Meadow: ... it is all about water...

Wachusett Meadow: ... isn't it ?...

Lots of Rain

Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge, Massachusetts

The place where life loves water and the rain is welcomed.
  Water lilies are in bloom,
those white petals, the stardust of ponds, always come close.

Otter Alley is flooded, I can hear the water flowing over.
There are some wobbly branches acting as a pass through, not convincing, but...
hey, we are here, a touch of water won't hurt.

I wonder what would the Otter make of this scene ?

Otter Alley: ... living with water...

Otter Alley: ... so nobody seems to complain...

Otter Alley: ... when the rains come...

Otter Alley: ... these wobbling branches are not convincing...

Otter Alley: ... how inadequate !...

Otter Alley: ... and what would the otters think ?...

Otter Alley: ... happily splashing away...

Otter Alley: ... leaving the bench behind...

Otter Alley: ... where are you ? somewhere around the corner, smiling...

Fresh in Water

Bradley Palmer State Park, Massachusetts

Special to walk along Ipswich River at this time.
Rich in flow, moves in silence, and attracts.
Mergansers have just touched the surface, continue paddling downstream...

      Swiftly lost from the sight.

At the old mill site, we see them again...

Ipswich River: ... moves in silence...

Ipswich River: ... downstream...

Ipswich River: ... at the old mill site...

Ipswich River: ... turns around...

Ipswich River: ... with the bracing glimpse...

In Thoreau's Footsteps

Concord Conservation Land, Massachusetts

 Early spring is about water.
Overflowing ponds, streams, rivers and rains prepare earth for the revival.

Today, we walk the paths where Thoreau sauntered almost 200 years before.
Through the land which includes Walden Pond
and the woods that stretch all the way to Sudbury river and his beloved Fairhaven.

At that time, mostly a farmland with hills opened to long views Thoreau enjoyed so much.
Now a woodland, in the life of her own, without the views.

   Yet Sudbury is still here,
with just about the same spring overflows...

Concord: ... mostly a farmland in Thoreau's days...

Concord: ... now a woodland...

Concord: ... fresh in water...

Concord: ... with this young Hemlock...

Concord: ... in the life of her own...

Concord: ... burbling...

Concord: ... streaming...

Concord: ... towards Sudbury...

Concord: ... overflows...

Concord: ... looks rough but these trees know well...

Concord: ... with no passage for walkers...

Concord: ... up the hill, the view of Thoreau's beloved Fairhaven, among the trees...

Concord: ... and blue-sky Walden...

Concord: ... still here...
